It’s begun…

Jeff left Stanley’s home at 6:30 Friday morning. I heard from him today when heavy rains and winds stopped him at “Hiker’s Hostel” near Dahlonega, GA. Here’s his e-mail to me:

made it to woody gap after a long day and nite before of HEAVY rain and wind. hadn’t planned on stopping here but prudence and what’s ahead helped me decide. just before  woody gap i saw a beautiful waterfall:

in fact the whole hike today was filled with pretty sites. today it was very windy and cold and as we were working so hard to get from A to B – which is a tendency every day- i realized some things…. with my head down, watching @step and focused on moving , it occured to me that i was missing some pretty scenery and spectacular vistas. life is like that i think. we/i get so focused on going from A to B and getting things done. head down and plodding along… we often miss life itself and an untold # of vistas, relationships, and so many of the good things of life. for me, then, i’m going to try as much as i can to slow down enough on this hike to enjoy God’s creation and me in it. i can take in the sites for those kids who might not. i still have deadlines to meet- things that must be done even when i wish i could slow down. just like the kids i’m hiking for. calling those that battle, sending cards, hanging out with them… we can do this for them to be sure that they- and we- don’t miss out on so much life. js
